The song draws inspiration from the movie V for Vendetta, and its proceeds are directed to the victims of the war in Ukraine
Combine the madness of System of a Down and the blaring electronics of Enter Shikari’s music with Bring Me the Horizon’s sound. The result is Awake Again!
The band released their debut album No Matter How the World Turns a year ago and now a new EP is on the way. The band is elusive about the EP’s details, but ENEMY offers a fiery clue of its spirit.
Musically, ENEMY cranks the epicness up to eleven. Besides crushing riffs and a catchy chorus, the song includes a classical orchestral arrangement playing alongside traditional band instruments. Kevin Apostol, known for his bands Assemble the Chariots and ATLAS, helped the band with the arrangement.
”We got to know Kevin last year at the Black Box Mikkeli event, where we were playing at the same day. Back then, the song’s demo featured just my humble orchestrations. When I found out that Kevin was ‘the man’ behind Assemble the Chariots’ gorgeous orchestrations, I had to ask if he was interested in doing something similar for us. Lucky for us, he said yes and helped the song reach an entirely new level” says the band’s singer Matti Österman, and continues:
”Otherwise, the song is composed, written, recorded and produced by the band, in which guitarist Kasper Helltsröm, who departed the band’s live lineup last year, played a major role. The finishing touches were added to the song by one of the current top names in the Finnish metal scene Rami Nykänen (e.g. One Morning Left), who carried out the mixing and mastering.”
ENEMY is a song about the practices of totalitarian governments, who drive their own agenda by labeling certain social groups as enemies. Among others, the lyrics draw inspiration from the movie V for Vendetta depicting a fictitious fascist party’s rise to power. The theme is woefully topical due to Russia’s war of aggression, and all proceeds from the song’s streams are directed to the victims of the war in Ukraine through UNICEF.
